I have this isris. This photo does not capture all of the depth of subtle color in the actual plan, probably due to the sun angle and exposure settings on the camera. The true colors include, besides the maroon shown here, deep rich reflective violets, a hint of deep blue in the throat, and much more horizontal, slightly drooping falls - this bloom looks old and wilting and should be replaced by a better pic to show the true glory of its subtlety.
I have hundreds and hundreds of different irises, and this one is one of my favorites, along with Osaka. It's strong, too.
